Here we go......we needed a basic barbecue sauce recipe to work with. There are so many recipes that will start or contain barbecue sauce that we have to put this one in the basics section of the recipe box. It is soooo easy to make your own and the great part is....this is a base to start with....it is up to you to change whatever you like. You may want to make it sweeter...spicier....etc!!! It's all up to you...I am not a huge fan of thick and heavy sauces so mine is a bit thinner and lighter....I hope you like it!! ALL GOOD STUFF!!!
BARBECUE SAUCE
1 LARGE ONION DICED 4 CLOVES OF GARLIC MINCED 2 TBLSP OLIVE OIL 2 CUPS KETCHUP 1/4 CUP SOY SAUCE 1 CUP BROWN SUGAR 1/4 CUP RICE VINEGAR 2 TBLSP WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE 1 TBLSP ONION POWDER 2 TBLSP MOLASSES 1/2 CUP HONEY 1/2 TSP GROUND MUSTARD SALT & PEPPER
Start by heating your oil in a medium stock pot. Add your diced onion and begin to sweat. Add your garlic and simmer just to slightly soften all.
Now just get all the remaining ingredients in the pot in any order your wish. Mix it all together and bring it to a soft simmer. Let it simmer on a low flame for about 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool completely on the stove. It will thicken as it cools.
That's all there is to that one. Make double or even triple the recipe and store in a jar in the refrigerator. It is great to have it already prepared and ready to go. And again.....feel free to add your own tastes...hot sauces...jalapenos...etc!! ENJOY!!!
