What do you feed your son when he comes home from football practice, collapses on the couch, and says I need food!!!! Well, I run to the frig and see nothing but some leftover sausage and a package of Pillsbury Crescent Roll Sheets. Ok, this could work!! It is great to have these crescent roll sheets on hand because you can roll anything up in them. Leftover steaks to make cheese steaks, meatballs, pepperoni pizza or any type of cold cut. Just lay it on, roll it up and top it with your favorite toppings. I like making them with everything as you can see.
SAUSAGE & CRESCENT ROLL UPS
4 TO 6 LINKS OF COOKED SAUSAGE FONTINA (OR YOUR FAVORITE) CHEESE 2 CRESCENT ROLL SHEETS 1 EGG FOR BRUSHING THE TOP SESAME SEEDS OR SEASONINGS FOR TOP
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly flour your surface and lay out your crescent rolls sheets.
Slice up your precooked sausage and lay it down on one end. Grate the cheese on top. Again, you can use any cheese you like and as much as you like. My son just happens to love, love, love Fontina!!
Now, just roll it up. Squeezing it gently as you roll and pinching the ends together to seal.
Now the fun part......this is the exact same twist method my friend and "V.IC." (Very Important Chef) Lisa uses on her amazing cookies. You will see her recipe soon. I decided to try it here and it makes them look sooo beautiful. So just shape the dough into a "U" shape to start. Then cross over the ends once....then twice. Shaping it together as you go.
Lay them on a parchment lined baking tray. Brush with an egg wash.
Now for the topping!! You can use any or all like I do. But I will share with you one of my favorites.......Tastefully Simple Seasonings!! This Onion Onion seasoning is great for topping breads... add alittle extra sesame seed and some kosher salt and you pretty much have an everything topping!! I love it, Tastefully Simple makes great seasoning blends...Bacon Bacon, and Garlic Garlic....amazing!!!
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Just watch to see when it is a beautiful golden brown.
These are great after school or sports snacks for kids....or a quick appetizer for your next get together. Get creative and let us know what you roll up in there!!! ENJOY!!!
