This is the simplest dish you will make for Thanksgiving. And to me.....one of my favorites dishes. I must make fresh Cranberry Sauce for our dinner. I can not do the can!!!! It just does not work for me. Especially when it is sooooo ridiculously easy to make!!! You can really just read the directions on the package. The only thing I do different then what it would say is..... I add a bit of orange zest. The orange citrus flavor is always a perfect pair for cranberry anything!!! It's awesome in here!! So let's take a few minutes and make our own Cranberry Sauce for our amazing Thanksgiving dinner!!!! You can definitely make this a couple days ahead!!! I like to make alot for leftovers also but you can just cut everything in half if you like.
CRANBERRY SAUCE
2 BAGS OF FRESH CRANBERRIES 2 CUPS OF SUGAR 2 CUPS OF WATER 1 TBLSP ORANGE ZEST
In a medium sized stock pot....add in your cranberries, sugar and water.
Bring it to a simmer and let it cook for about 25 minutes stirring occasionally until cranberries are soft and burst.
At this point, I like to help break them up a bit with a potato masher. It is totally up to you as to how chunky you like your Cranberry Sauce. I like to just mash it up a bit. Also...the more you mash it, the thicker it will get in the end.
If you do not like any pieces in your Cranberry Sauce, you can push it through a mesh strainer.
Last....add in the tablespoon or so of the orange zest. Again....judge by your own taste. You can add half in and taste it....if you want more then add it!!
There you go.....done!!!! After it cools, you can store it in a tupperware in the frig until Thanksgiving!!! There is nothing like fresh homemade Cranberry Sauce...and the orange zest just gives it an extra something!!!
