Today was a snow day and I was soooooo bored!! So what else is there to do but play in the kitchen? You have all seen the videos where they make wreaths or rings with crescent roll dough lately. Such a great idea and I have been wanting to try it. I decided to give it a shot but with my Shepards Pie ingredients. This is what happened.....and there was nothing bad about it!!! It basically turned out to be Shepards Pie in a Pot Pie....sort of anyway!!
So just follow my Shepards Pie Recipe. Also have Crescent Rolls on hand. I used both the regular Crescent rolls for the top and the Crescent Sheets for the bottom but you could probably use either. Just lay the sheets out on a pizza pan or baking tray. I used my beautiful new Pizza Stone from Pampered Chef. I love it!!! This was two sheets side by side for a thicker crust and smooshed together.
Then lay your prepared meat in a ring as I did..... and break a whole in the middle.
Next lay your crescent rolls over the top. Then roll up the edges along with the ends of the top crescent rolls to cover most.
Brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with some sea salt if you like!!
Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 to an hour or until it is a beautiful golden brown!
Then....I like to take things to the next level. So top it with your mashed potatoes....only after you added about a cup, or more, of shredded mexican cheese!!
Get it back into the oven just for 10 or 15 minutes so the cheese inside gets all melty and the potatoes get that little bit of crunch on the top!!
... Now top that with your corn, which is heated up with melted butter and a pinch of salt. Then if you want .........some Brown Gravy on top of all that!!! Seriously.....YYUUUMMMMMMM!!!!! My family loved it. Definitely a mountain of a creation but a delicious mountain!! And served alot!!! Fed my whole family in one beautiful dish.
