My daughter, Melissa's, favorite cake is strawberry shortcake.....her request for her birthday cake every year!! So when I saw this chocolate angel food cake in the store the other day....a light bulb went off!! Melissa is going to love this....Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shortcake!!! If there is anything Melissa loves more than strawberry shortcake, it's chocolate. So put both together....OMG.......it was amazing!!!! If your not lucky enough to find a chocolate angel food cake like I did, you can always use a chocolate pound cake or make a regular chocolate box cake. Whatever works for you.
CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE
CHOCOLATE CAKE (ANGEL FOOD, POUND...ETC) 1 PINT OF STRAWBERRIES CHOPPED 1 PINT HEAVY WHIPPED CREAM 1/4 CUP SUGAR CHOCOLATE SYRUP
Use a trifle bowl so you will see all those gorgeous layers!!
Pour the heavy cream in a mixing bowl. With a hand mixer, beat cream and sugar until whipped and thick.
Now simply layer with half of all the ingredients....start with the chocolate cake. Then a layer of whipped cream, strawberries and a generous drizzle of chocolate syrup!! Then a little more syrup around the edges of the bowl. Extra chocolate never hurts!!
Repeat all layers one at a time in the exact same way...cake, cream, strawberries and top it all off with the chocolate syrup!! It is the easiest desert to make and it such a beautiful presentation!! Just look at that...people will think you worked on that all day!!!
Well, Melissa loved it, and my little grandson Ryan...he didn't want to let it go or share with anyone!! It was a huge hit. I have a feeling it will be on the request list for sure.
